Greggs cafe to open in Newcastle Central Station

The UK's leading bakery retailer, Greggs has secured approval from Newcastle City Council planners to open a cafe in Central Station.

The bakery giant had planned for digital display screens in the windows but planning officers said they would be 'undesirable' in the listed building.

When completed a new cafe and takeaway will open in the unit, which was formerly home to Paperchase.

Greggs currently operates 20 outlets in Newcastle, and has over 2,000 shops nationwide, serving over six million customers a week.

The company is now targeting 2,500 sites around the UK, having moved into Northern Ireland and opened its first drive-thrus.
