Stradey Park Hotel & Spa, located on the Loughor Estuary in Llanelli, has been sold via Christie & Co, from an asking price of £3.2m.
Overlooking the Gower peninsula, the first place in Britain to be named an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the four-star hotel benefits from a loyal clientele as well as attracting many tourists. In addition to the stunning scenery, visitors come from far afield to play at the renowned Jack Nicklaus Golf Course and watch rugby at the Parc y Scarlets Stadium.
Stradey Park Hotel also maintains an enviable reputation as one of the finest award-winning wedding venues in South West Wales. The stone-built manor house, which dates back to 1912, plays host to the hotel reception, main dining room and function rooms and was originally owned by local industrialist, Alexander Raby. In 1974, the hotel was further extended and now boasts 77 well-appointed en suite rooms, conference and meetings rooms, spa facilities and treatment rooms.
The hotel has been owned by Gryphon Leisure Ltd since 2000 and has been heavily invested in by way of improvements and upkeep of the business. The owners have taken the decision to sell the business to semi-retire in order to pursue other interests.
It was a rare opportunity for a business of this size and quality to become available in the South of Wales. The property has been purchased by Sterling Woodrow Investments that intend to continue driving the business moving forward. The business has been transferred as a going concern which has meant that there will be no disruption with regards to the day to day running of the hotel, accommodation, wedding or event bookings.
Corrina Jones, Senior Business Agent at Christie & Co, said, “Christie & Co are delighted to have had the opportunity to work with the owners of Stradey Park Hotel & Spa and to secure a buyer to take over the helm of this iconic business.
'Our clients, the directors of Gryphon Leisure Ltd and Operational Director Angela Saunders have worked tirelessly to make the hotel a success since they bought the business over twenty years ago.
'The hotel is well known and loved by local residents and visitors to the area and Angela specifically has been very hands on and taken the hotel from humble beginnings to the only quality 4* hotel & spa in Llanelli but is now looking forward to stepping down from the business and enjoying a well-deserved retirement and focusing on remaining business interests.”
