Derbyshire Co-op set to be boosted by brand new coffee shop

A Central England Co-operative food store in Littleover will soon be home to a fast-growing coffee chain’s first Derbyshire outlet, creating five news jobs.

Insomnia Coffee Company is set to open its doors in Central England Co-op’s Burton Road store and recruitment for five new roles is currently under way.

Insomnia is Ireland’s leading independent coffee shop chain where it was founded in 1997 but has been rapidly expanding into the United Kingdom with outlets across the country, including in a number of Debenhams and Primark stores.

Central England Co-operative have chosen Insomnia as their franchise partner, and the new branch at Littleover will open its doors after Easter. The Society is delighted to boost its offering to customers and members at its Burton Road supermarket with this new community addition.

Tony Wills, Central England Co-op Store Manager at Burton Road, said, “The Society has been looking into the best way to utilise space at our Littleover Food Store to improve the offer available to our customers and members for some time.

“Therefore, I am really pleased to have Insomnia on board to deliver a high-quality café within the store, offering fantastic Fairtrade coffee and a great selection of sandwiches, cakes and snacks, which will really enhance the in-store experience.

“As a co-operative retailer which takes great pride in its support of the Fairtrade movement and in its record on sustainability and the environment, we are delighted to partner with Insomnia which shares our ethos in both those areas, selling 100% Fairtrade coffee and tea, as well as continually driving to improve its environmental sustainability.”

Harry O’Kelly, CEO of Insomnia Coffee, said, “Central England Co-op is the largest independent retail co-operative society in the UK, so this is a partnership we are very excited about and are delighted to open our doors to the community of Littleover after Easter.'

The redevelopment of the Burton Road store to house the new cafe, will also see the store’s frontage refreshed as part of the project.
