Bradford Council seeks operator for new food court in £21m scheme

Bradford Council is calling for expressions of interest from companies interested in running the food court in its new £21m Darley Street Market, which will open in 2022.

The authority is seeking a highly skilled operator who can manage the project’s 500-seat food and beverage court.

The successful operator will take an active role in delivering a high quality independent food and drink offer, its marketing and promotional activities as well as the maintenance and cleaning of the space.

The council will hold an engagement day where officers will provide an overview of the current design of the market and listen to views and suggestions from potential operators.

Bradford Council’s Darley Street Market will feature a spacious modern market with dedicated underground servicing areas and a dynamic new public square for open air events and outdoors stalls.

The new facility will offer high quality food and non-food items giving people the opportunity to discover unusual or specialist items, whilst shopping for daily fresh food or enjoying a meal or light snack.

The market will feature a floor dedicated to non-food sales, one selling fresh food along with the food hall in which 13 stalls will offer hot food and drinks.

The council believes the new development will act as a regeneration catalyst, adding to Bradford’s draw as a shopping and leisure destination and attracting thousands of people into the city.

The stunning new building and square is being designed to increase the profile of Piccadilly which boasts a number of high quality Victorian buildings.

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said, “Our Darley Street Market is an incredibly important project and it’s crucial we get the food and beverage offer right.

“We are keen to hear from highly and experienced competent operators who can ensure this vital element of the project is a success.”

The engagement event will be run on 25 March at 11am. For further information, operators can email Bradford.markets@bradford.gov.uk
