Family-owned for 100 years c-store in Northants for sale

Moore & Son Costcutter in Long Buckby, Northamptonshire, has been brought to market through Christie & Co and comes with a £795k price tag.

The store has been owned by the same family since 1919 and offers a unique opportunity for a new owner to take on a very successful business, which also has potential for them to make their mark.

The recently refitted freehold site currently offers groceries, drinks and fresh produce chillers along with freezers, household goods, off license, compliant tobacco gantry, National Lottery and Tchibo coffee machine. The store is also a Hermes Parcel Shop.

The vendor, Trevor Moore, is the grandson of the original owner and took over the store forty years ago. He is now looking to retire and approached Christie & Co to handle the sale.

Mooree said, 'I joined my father running the family business 40 years ago, which was started by my grandfather in 1919. I have never really considered it as having a job, as it has been a rewarding way of life, being at the heart of a thriving village community.

'The fourth generation are now off following other career paths, and I feel the time is right for me to retire and pursue my other interests.

'This will leave the opportunity for the new owners to take over the business with new and fresh ideas to further enhance our village store, and we wish them every success for the future.'

Stephen Bell, Senior Business Agent at Christie & Co handled the sale and comments, , 'This is a fantastic opportunity for a buyer to take on the freehold of a high turnover store, and the addition of hot food to go is just one example of another avenue a new owner could pursue to build on the already successful trade.'
