Award-winning bartender to take charge at new Marylebone restaurant

Award-winning bartender Maxim Schulte has been appointed to head up KOL Mezcaleria, the destination bar set to open on Friday 20 November.

The bar will be within chef Santiago Lastra’s (pictured left) debut Marylebone 56-cover restaurant, KOL, which opens today. It was originally set to open in March but was delayed due to the lockdown.

Schulte (pictured right) is looking forward to joining the KOL team as Bar Manager following two years as Head Bartender at the illustrious American Bar within The Savoy.

KOL Mezcaleria will be situated within KOL’s lower ground floor and is set become one of Europe’s leading destinations to experience the delights and complexities of mezcal, Mexico’s most celebrated drink.

Inspired by the dynamic and convivial mezcal bars that are prolific across Mexico, alongside an expansive selection of mezcals and tequilas, a menu of street-food inspired snacks will also be available.

Before his time at The American Bar - ranked amongst the World’s 50 Best Bars – Schulte’s international career has seen him take on top positions at prestigious cocktail bars across the globe. This includes Beverage Manager at The Ritz-Carlton Saudi Arabia and The Ritz-Carlton Macau, which was placed on the Asia 50 Best Bars list under Maxim’s management.

In 2018, Schulte, who is originally from Germany, won the Beefeater Gin’s MIXLDN global competition, where he represented Hong Kong & Macau.
