Garden Museum Cafe launches summer terrace & garden dining space

The award-winning Garden Museum Cafe, located at the heart of the historic Garden Museum in Lambeth, has re-opened and launched its outside summer terrace and al fresco garden courtyard spaces.

Available to to book now, guests can enjoy both lunch and dinner service, from Thursday through to Sunday (weather permitting, of course) outside on the beautiful, picturesque 12-cover summer terrace, or within the tranquil surrounds of the museum’s open-air garden atrium, which seats up to 22 people.

The main in-door restaurant space at the Garden Museum Cafe, which seats a further 20, will re-open in late May, following current government guidelines.

The splendid modern-British/European menu is curated by the restaurant’s talented young head chef, George Ryle (ex-Primeur, Padella), who is serving up a weekly-changing menu using super fresh seasonal produce, locally sourced where possible, from the likes of Natoora, Swaledale, Flying Fish and Mons Cheesemongers, with bread baked by the team in-house.

Guests can expect unpretentious and homely fare, with dishes such as ‘Roast calcots & romesco’ and ‘Courgette, crab, chilli & basil’ on the small plates menu, through to hearty mains such as ‘Onglet, white sprouting broccoli & anchovy’ and ‘Cavatelli with pork rib and nduja ragu’. Dessert options on the re-launch menu include ‘Leche frita with stewed rhubarb’ and ‘Ricotta & hazelnut cake’.

Service at the Garden’s Cafe is friendly and understated, courtesy of new General Manager, Albert Wilson (ex-Westerns Laundry), who also oversees the restaurant’s considered wine list, which focuses on an accessible list of natural and organic bottles - offering something for any occasion, or dish.

Garden Museum Director, Christopher Woodward commented of the reopening, “We decided – unlike almost all other Museums – to run the cafe ourselves at the Garden Museum. I remember meeting George for the first time and trying his food and thinking, wow, that’s delicious.

'It’s a small space and we worked hard during lockdown at getting every dish right. So we’re thrilled to now be able to welcome guests back to our outside dining spaces this month, and the main restaurant from late May.”

Bookings for dining outside on the summer terrace and garden courtyard atrium at the Garden Museum Cafe are now open, from Thursday - Sunday, lunch and dinner service.
