London’s first empanadería launches in Portobello this July

De Nadas, London’s first empanadería specialising in Argentinian hand-shaped empanadas, will open on the Golborne Road, Portobello, this July.

Bringing a touch of Buenos Aires to London, De Nadas will go beyond the traditional half-moon shaped pastries and feature 15 different shaped empanadas with meat, vegetarian and plant-based fillings, all crafted-by-hand.

Enjoyed on street corners as well as in top restaurants, in Argentina empanadas are a national obsession. De Nada was created by Nico Buyo and Ñako Martinez to give them the cult-like status they deserve in the UK.

Baked, not fried, De Nadas empanadas are made with 100% vegan dough. Fillings include Classic Beef, with olives, peppers and egg; Ham & Cheese, Chorizo, Spicy Lamb and MDQ, the Argentinian take on the Hawaiian with ham, cheese and pineapple.

Not just for meat-eaters, veggie options will include Smoked Malbec, with caramelised Malbec onions and cheese; Puca Capa, with cheese, coriander and aji molido, Caprese with mozzarella, basil and cherry tomatoes; Blue Cheese & Pear and Palmitos with mozzarella, palm hearts and salsa golf.

Vegans will not be disappointed with the juicy roasted Butternut Squash & Kale. The team will also create seasonal specials post-launch.

Bought individually or in boxes of six, 9, 12 or more, empanadas will be available to take out/ eat-in or packaged up as a cracking gift for dinner. Lunch boxes will feature from 11-3pm, Monday to Friday, and will include up to three empanadas with salad.

The Golborne Road empanadería will also feature artisanal coffees and an Argentinian deli, or Picada, stocking Argentinian produce. This will include Black Label grass-fed beef, to enjoy at home, as well as home-made pots of Chimichurri / Chimimayo, Yerba Matte and Alfajores - Argentinian cookies with Dulce de Leche.

Last but not least, the De Nadas vinyl wine room, featuring London’s largest selection of Malbecs and vermouths, will play host to wine and empanada tastings and private events against a backdrop of eclectic sounds.
