Popular Somerset restaurant changes hands

Goodfellows, a long-standing, popular restaurant located in the centre of Wells, close to the cathedral and town market, has been purchased by Petra Edwards, who has a background in the hospitality industry.

The Grade II listed building has operated as a restaurant for over 30 years and became known as to Adam and Martine Fellows taking over in 2004, the restaurant operated under a different name.

Under their ownership, the venue has built a reputation as one of the most highly rated restaurants in Wells and has become a go-to for locals and residents from the surrounding towns, with majority of its customers hailing from within a five-mile radius.

Commenting on their decision to sell, previous owner Adam Fellows said, “We had a great time running Goodfellows and met some amazing people, both customers and staff along the way however after 18 years, it was time to slow down a little and concentrate on our other site. We wish the new owner, Petra all the best and hope she enjoys running the business as much as we did.”

New owner Petra concluded, “After spending many early years working in the hospitality industry, I wanted to find a restaurant to pursue my passion. Goodfellows was up for sale, and we went for it.

'The food we will be serving is a delicious twist of British modern and French cuisine all served with an exceptional selection of drinks. We want to source as much local seasonal ingredients as possible.

' Our chef is passionate about making everything fresh and has extensive experience in the industry. Hopefully we will see you all soon.”

Nicholas Calfe, Director in Christie & Co’s Pubs & Restaurants team handled the sale and added, “I’m delighted to have successfully sold one of Wells’ most renowned restaurants during a difficult and challenging period for hospitality.

'With covid behind us and confidence back in the market, we feel it is the right time for buyers like Petra to take on an established business and put their own stamp on it. We look forward to seeing her take the business forward.”
