The study into the nation’s lunchtime habits, by Sushi Daily, has revealed as many as four in ten Brits admitting to eating fast food lunches every day.

A fifth (19 percent) tuck into pizza on a daily basis and 15 percent admit they eat a burger and fries every single working day.

In fact, less than a quarter (just 22 percent) of the nation eat salad, fruit or vegetables with their lunch on a working day.

Almost 22 percent blame their poor diet on the fact they cannot afford to eat healthily, while 14 percent admit they binge eat at work because of boredom.

In fact, one in ten (11 percent) confess to feeling ashamed of their junk food lunches.

In addition to unhealthy lunches, the average working Brit consumes 6,766 office snack calories a month, including an average of six cans of fizzy drinks, seven packets of crisps, five bars of chocolate, four packets of sweets and three doughnuts.

Despite this worrying trend for unhealthy lunches, 57 percent of Brits claim they are eating more nutritious lunches than they used to, and a fifth said that the increasing access to global food like sushi has improved our lunch options immeasurably.

The study found that 16 percent of Brits eat sushi for lunch, while a bagel is the choice for 12 percent, curry for one in ten, and 5 percent love a burrito.

Steve Flanagan, CMO at Sushi Daily said, “This research shows just how many Brits are indulging in alcohol and junk food at lunchtime, which might not be setting us up for the most productive afternoons.

“We’ve launched a new menu of superfood sushi to give the public a handmade option packed with vegetables and nutritious ingredients like seaweed, salmon and avocado.

“Picking up handmade sushi for lunch is just as easy as grabbing a sandwich. Our sushi chefs make our recipes from scratch each day using fresh ingredients, you can see them at work in our kitchens. Simply head to your local Sushi Daily counter to break out of your lunchtime slump!”

The survey also found that one in 10 (11 percent) unadventurous Brits always eat the same lunch every single weekday, and only 28 percent like to mix it up.

Yet more than half of Brits (53 percent) say lunch is the highlight of their working day.
