Festive menu options for prisoners revealed
Prisoners across the UK have enjoyed a full festive menu this Christmas. Although budgets have stayed tight, as per Ministry of Justice guidelines, inmated still had everything from salmon to roast turkey to choose from, as well as halal and vegan options. The Christmas meals are paid for from within existing prison budgets and at no extra cost to the taxpayer. Prisoners get a daily catering allowance of £2.02. With increased responsibilities to governors since April 2017, and devolved budgets to prisons, what is actually spent on food per prisoner per day, and the breakdown per meals, is ultimately a decision for each governor and their catering team, the Ministry of Justice says.
