The Chickpea Group, continuing its expansion, has acquired the King’s Arms in Shaftesbury, marking its first location in Dorset.
Located in the heart of town, the pub dates back to the 17th century and has been closed since April 2023. It features a spacious open fireplace, adding to its historic charm.
The pub is undergoing a complete refurbishment, bringing in a rich color scheme of deep greens and reds, along with handmade blinds, tables, chairs, and plush soft furnishings.
While the opening date hasn’t been announced, the pub will welcome guests seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., offering Chickpea Group’s signature “pub bangers” menu in its 100-seat dining area.
The menu will feature smash burgers, scotch eggs, handmade pies, and selections from the group’s Nole pizza brand. On Sundays, guests can enjoy hearty roast dinners, complete with bottomless roast potatoes and jugs of gravy.
On tap, guests can choose from a selection of local ales and beers, complemented by an extensive list of wines and cocktails.
The pub includes a spacious courtyard for outdoor drinking and dining during warmer months. Additionally, a long adjoining room with a separate entrance will be redesigned to host a rotating lineup of pop-up events.
Ethan Davids, co-founder of the Chickpea Group and 2022 Acorn Award winner, said: “The Kings Arms has all the characteristics of a great pub: a roaring fire, long bar, and plenty of space.
'We think our model will work nicely there and we’re looking forward to swinging the doors back open after a particularly long period of closure. See you at the bar!”
