Meiko enhances UK management team
A key leader in Hilton’s European F&B strategy for the past 10 years has joined Meiko UK's management team.

Jon Sharp, with over 35 years of industry experience, will take on the role of Specification Manager for Meiko's 'care and protect' sectors. These sectors include specialised washing systems for care homes and breathing apparatus for firefighters.

Mr. Sharp, who brings extensive sales leadership and business development expertise, was instrumental in driving significant F&B brand growth for Hampton by Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn during his decade-long tenure as a key member of Hilton’s leadership team across Europe.

Supreme acquires Typhoo Tea from administration
Supreme, a UK-based consumer goods company, has acquired Typhoo Tea after it entered administration.

The Guardian reported that the rescue deal was valued at £10.2 million.

The acquisition secures Typhoo’s future in both UK and international markets, maintaining the brand’s British ownership.

Founded in 1903, Typhoo entered administration last month, putting its future and associated brands in jeopardy.

Britvic’s 'outstanding performance' fuelled by the success of new growth brands
Soft drinks company Britvic has reported what it calls an 'outstanding performance' in its latest financial results for the year ending 30 September 2024.

The major brand reported £1.9 billion in revenue for the financial year, marking a 9.5% increase from £1.7 billion in 2023.

Similarly, profit after tax increased by 1.8%, reaching £125.8 million, up from £124 million last year.

Britvic attributed the growth to both price/mix and volume.

Bidcorp UK marks 25th Anniversary
This month, Bidcorp UK—parent company of Bidfood, Bidfresh, Bidcorp Manufacturing, and Caterfood Buying Group—marks 25 years of successful trading since its acquisition by South African-based Bidcorp.

Bunzl has expanded its portfolio by acquiring C&C Catering Equipment, a family-owned distributor specialising in catering equipment and kitchen design.

C&C Catering Equipment, based in Chester, has a long family history, having been founded in 1981 by John and Enid Kitchin. Since 1996, their son, Peter Kitchin, has led the company, growing it into a prominent distributor and kitchen design business within the catering sector.

With this acquisition, Bunzl now controls not only C&C Catering Equipment but also its subsidiaries.

Wrexham Lager Beer Co has announced that Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have joined as new co-owners of the company.

This new partnership comes four years after Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney purchased Wrexham AFC, the Welsh town’s struggling football club, and documented its revival in a successful TV series.

Founded in 1882, Wrexham Lager is the oldest lager brewery still operating in Great Britain. It supplies its products across multiple channels, including the on-trade.

Northumbrian operator takes on second lease with Star Pubs
Licensee of Newcastle House in Rothbury, and a former hotelier and restauranteur, Chris Greaves has taken on his second Star Pubs lease, The Coach Inn in Lesbury, nr Alnwick. He is undertaking a joint £330,000 refurbishment of the village pub with Star Pubs which will be completed mid-November in time for the festive season.

The Coach Inn, the only pub in the village, reopened in February after a four-year closure with Chris and his team managing it on a temporary basis until he took on its lease.
The investment will see the picturesque pub benefit from a new extended kitchen.

Creed Foodservice, a prominent foodservice provider in the UK, has reached an agreement to be acquired by Kitwave Wholesale Group (Kitwave).

As part of the acquisition, Creed Foodservice will assume a key position within Kitwave’s Foodservice division, which encompasses the trading operations of David Miller Frozen Foods, Total Foodservice, M.J. Baker Foodservice, and Westcountry Food Holdings.

Harlech secures over £2 million in school food contracts
Harlech Foodservice has secured two significant school contracts valued at over £2 million, marking its first education partnership in South Wales.

One of the contracts, valued at £1.5 million, involves supplying schools in Gwynedd, North Wales, with a variety of products, including Welsh beef. The other is a £700,000, 12-month agreement to provide schools and care homes in Rhondda Cynon Taf, South Wales, with food supplies.

Britvic rejects £3.1bn acquisition from Carlsberg
Soft drink maker Britvic has turned down a £3.1bn takeover bid from Danish brewing giant Carlsberg. Following the news, shares of Britvic, the producer of Robinsons squash and J2O, jumped by as much as 15% from Friday, 21 June.

Britvic announced that it received a proposal from Carlsberg to acquire the entire business on 11 June.

Britvic revealed that Carlsberg's potential bid valued the company at 1,250p per share, or £3.1 billion. However, Britvic rejected the proposal, stating that it 'significantly undervalues Britvic.

Bidcorp UK has acquired Northern Bloc, an ice cream manufacturer that supplies products to Booths, the National Trust, and Wagamama.

Founded in 2014, Northern Bloc Ice Cream Ltd provides a variety of products, including vegan and custom ice creams in numerous flavors. The company also offers a low-sugar ice cream range for children and a special ice cream for dogs, in partnership with the Dogs Trust.
