Iceland aims for 70 new stores in Ireland

The frozen food supermarket group with 850 stores, Iceland, is planning for an unprecedented expansion in the Republic of Ireland.

Founded in 1970, the company is aiming to open between 50 and 70 stores in the region over the next five years, and is set to open five to ten stores this year.

In other Iceland news, 2015 has seen a range of new products launched including frozen speciality fish and meat, and a revolutionary new range of frozen bread and pastries.

In a survey last month, a basket of 33 everyday essentials cost £2.68 less in Iceland than in the cheapest of the 'Big Four' supermarkets.
