Fortnum & Mason to open new restaurant after 60 years

Upmarket London department store Fortnum & Mason has closed its Fountain Brasserie after 60 years and now plans to replace it with a destination restaurant oozing the old-fashioned glamour of a bygone age.

45 Jermyn Street will be open from 7am until late and will accommodate up to 113 guests at tables, booths and a long bar. The menu will offer breakfast menus such as buttermilk pancakes and then lunch and dinner options including Dover sole and other traditional dishes. Modern dishes will also be available including vegetable carpaccio with tarragon salsa verde. There with also be a late-night supper menu.

The restaurant itself will feature burnt-orange leather banquettes in the centre, booths set against the front and back walls and a marble-fronted bar serving both classic and innovative cocktails. Director Simon Thompson, previously of Dunhiland Caprice Holdings said there will be a focus on wine, with moderate prices that will reflect Fortnum & Mason’s buying power and international connections.
