Celebrated Cornwall chef Rick Stein has submitted a planning application to open a new restaurant in Marlborough.
Stein hopes to convert a former clothing stop on the high street into a 10-cover restaurant which will be his third site outside Cornwall. If planning is granted, the property will be set across the ground and first floor, including booth seating are and a bar, a 12 –cover private dining room, plus a kitchen in the basement.
A decision on the application is expected by 22 January, and if successful, the restaurant is aiming to employ 40 people and boost tourism in the area.
The planning application states: “The purpose of the application is to facilitate the opening of a new Rick Stein restaurant in Marlborough. This will not only be the family’s first business within the town but also within Wiltshire.
“Having successfully developed several other restaurants and related operations in the South West, originating from Padstow, this family-run business is keen to bring their unique brand of food into Marlborough.”
Rick Stein opened his first restaurant The Seafood Restaurant in Padstow in 1974. He has gone on to open a further nine the most recent being his largest restaurant to date, a 200-cover site, in Sandbanks in Poole Harbour on 28 November.
