The Countess of York, the beautifully restored 1956 Pullman-style carriage situated at the National Railway Museum, has launched a new afternoon tea menu featuring Scottish-inspired treats to celebrate the return of the world famous locomotive, the Flying Scotsman.
The new menu will feature finger sandwiches including Roast Highlands beef with horseradish and watercress, chargrilled chicken and herb mayonnaise and cucumber and cream cheese, as well as Scottish smoked salmon oatcakes with dill crème fraiche and beetroot and freshly baked scones with vanilla enhanced clotted cream and homemade preserve.
Desserts will include macaroons, cranachan tart, mini Dundee cake with a whiskey glaze, local rhubarb and vanilla custard choux bun and blood orange and chocolate mousse.
Sam Waseem, Assistant Catering Manager at the National Railway Museum, says: “We put a great deal of effort into making sure we offer new and exciting afternoon tea options for our guests to enjoy and we are certain that our new menu in celebration of the Flying Scotsman will prove just as popular.”
The special afternoon tea menu costs £22.50 and can be booked until March, with the Countess able to accommodate events or parties of up to 33 people.
The National Railway Museum itself is also celebrating the return of the world famous locomotive by offering a special Flying Scotsman corporate events package to any company hiring the Great Hall for dinner. Available from February to June, the themed package includes exclusive use of the Great Hall, a welcome drink on arrival, a Flying Scotsman themed three-course dinner menu and photo opportunities around the world famous locomotive, which will be situated at the NRM from 25 March to 8 May 2016.
