Heineken to invest £20m in Star Pubs & Bars refurbs this year

Drinks manufacturer and pub operator, Heineken is to invest a further £20m on improving its Star Pubs & Bars estate during 2016, covering 1,050 of its pubs.

The scheme will see 78 pubs receiving major refurbishments with an average spend of £170k, creating around 750 jobs.

The revamps are planned to improve Star pubs food offering, with new kitchens and more flexible areas within pubs for private dining and gatherings. The group's ambition is to have 50% of the estate's revenue coming from food by 2020.

Lawson Mountstevens, Star Pubs & Bars managing director, commented, 'In the last three years we have invested £58m to safeguard the great British pub. We work in partnership with our licensees to improve their pubs for the consumers they serve and help them grow their sales.'

He added, “Great community pubs need to adapt to changing consumer needs and we're investing to ensure Star licensees can do just that.”
