Gary Usher exceeds £50k Kickstarter target for third restaurant

Chef Gary Usher has exceeded his £50k target for his third restaurant, with backers on Kickstarter bringing in over £52k, ahead of the 6 April deadline.

Usher needed to raise a total of £50k before he could get a £100k loan from the bank.

Hispi in Chorlton, south Manchester will sit in Usher's portfolio alongside Heswall’s Burnt Truffle, and Sticky Walnut in Hoole.

Sticky Walnut opened in January 2011 on a shoestring. Since then it has gone from strength to strength and in 2013 won the Catey 'Menu of the Year; award, the AA 'Restaurant of the Year' award in 2014 and in 2015 the Cheshire Life 'Restaurant of the Year'.

Burnt Truffle has only been open since July 2015 following a successful Kickstarter campaign, but has already been awarded an AA Rosette and 8/10 in a review by Lisa Markwell in the Independent.

Everything in Usher's restaurants is made from scratch in-house and this includes, for example, fresh bread daily, all stocks and sauces, ice creams, sorbets, and tarts.
