Bakkavor to hire 470 new staff due to product demand

Bakkavor Desserts is to expand the 1,700-strong workforce at its fresh cakes factory in Newark with 370 new jobs, due to demand for its sweet treats. The firm is also planning to expand the 600-strong workforce at its Freshcook prepared foods factory at Holbeach St Marks in Lincolnshire with 100 new jobs.

The company is to introduce a new night shift and boost its current day shifts at the Newark site. New positions include a range of permanent and full-time roles from manufacturing technicians and food handlers to section leaders and section managers.

The Newark site produces around 190 million packs of desserts. Each year, the facility typically produces 120 million profiteroles, 120 million eclairs, 55 million egg custards and 30 million bowl trifles.

Freshcook produces a wide range of chilled categories, ranging from high-end ready meals through to delicatessen products, for M&S. The Holbeach facility is adding new operative roles across day and night shifts as well as a number of management roles.

Freshcook said it is 'number one' supplier of products under Marks and Spencer's Dine In own label and has supplied more than 30 million Dine In meals since the promotion was first introduced.
