Wadworth, the family brewer and pub operator based in Devizes, has brewed a limited edition ale in honour of the Large Blue Butterfly, a rare butterfly only found in a handful of sites across the UK, including the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust’s Daneway Banks nature reserve.
The beer, aptly named Rare Find, will be available to buy from three Wadworth pubs from now until the end of July 2016, the flying period for adult Large Blues. It will primarily be on sale at The Daneway Inn in Sapperton, Cirencester to celebrate its new refurbishment, as well as two other sites that are in close proximity to the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust’s nature reserve; The Colesbourne Inn, Colesboune and The Greyhound Inn, Siddington.
Rare Find is a delightfully refreshing Golden Ale with a 4.0% ABV, brewed with Maris Otter Malt, combined with Olicana, a rare new hop variety that gives the beer hints of mango, grapefruit and passionfruit. Rare Find is then finished off with the addition of the natural extract of elderflower during the fermentation process.
Colin Oke, head brewer at Wadworth, said: “We are really looking forward to offering this unique tasting ale to our customers at the three sites. It is a refreshing Golden Ale, with a hint of sweetness of fruits and elderflower, making it the perfect summer drink!
“As a brewer we are so lucky to have a pub on the edge of such a beautiful nature reserve, and we wanted to brew the Rare Find beer to celebrate the life of the beautiful and endangered Large Blue butterfly.”
