Jockey Club Catering hosts BBQ fundraiser at Cheltenham Racecourse

The Jockey Club Catering team has played host to a barbecue fundraiser at Cheltenham Racecourse, with members from County Community Projects (CCP) with food served throughout the evening. CCP is a Cheltenham based charity that prevents homelessness and strengthens families.

The event was held in collaboration with the current Miss Cheltenham, Lucinda Thayers and two CCP Youth Ambassadors Bridie Zulhayir and Indiana Rayfield. The evening was attended by 150 people and raised money for CCP and the official Miss World charity – Beauty with a Purpose.

Cheltenham Racecourse and Jockey Club Catering were delighted to support the evening, providing both venue, food and refreshments free of charge, whilst also guiding members of CCP through the finer details of laying on the perfect summer BBQ.

Guests were treated to an array of BBQ classics, including German bratwurst sausages, beef burgers, lemon and thyme chicken skewers, accompanied by salads and a jacket potato selection. Vegetarian options were also available with the lemon and thyme halloumi skewers proving very popular. To conclude, a variety of sweet options were laid on, including baked New York style cheese cake, strawberry tartlets and chocolate éclairs.

Phil Roberts, General Manager at Cheltenham Racecourse, said, “When CCP approached us with the idea of this event, we were delighted to get involved and support. It was a fun evening and we enjoyed mentoring and educating the young men and women with us. They were a joy to work with and did a fantastic job helping to raise money for two great causes.”

Joanna Winnel, Jockey Club Catering Operations Manager, also added: “The guys that worked the event were really positive and showed keenness to do further work with us. Based on what we saw on the night, we’d be more than happy to take them on for some shifts.”

Bridie Zulhayir, Youth Ambassador for County Community Projects, commented: “I met other strong women throughout the day who had similar life experiences as myself, this has made me feel as though I can achieve anything in life now.

CCP is currently Cheltenham Racecourses’ official charity having worked together for almost two years on a number of initiatives.

Jockey Club Catering is a joint venture between Jockey Club Racecourses and Compass Group UK & Ireland.
