The Malhotra Group is planning to invest £3.5m in the New Northumbria Hotel, boosting bed numbers, and creating the first gin house in Jesmond, Newcastle.
The proposed development, which will create 24 new jobs, will increase bed numbers by a fifth, and includes new apartment-style rooms, and an upgrade for all its existing hotel rooms.
Work on the three rear annexes to the existing hotel and restaurant will create 12 new bedrooms, including apartment-style suites with kitchenettes to encourage longer stays, bringing the total number of rooms to 67.
The hotel bar to the rear of the Scalinis restaurant will also receives a revamp.
