Aldi sees Team GB sponsorship hike fresh fruit & veg sales

Discount supermarket chain, Aldi has said that its sponsorship of Team GB has significantly boosted sales of healthy foods in its stores.

The discounter's saw sales of over £289m on fresh produce from May to July, a leap of 19% in like-for-likes. Sales for bananas rose by an impressive 25%, followed by tomatoes at 15%, and salads by 14%.

In the run-up to the Rio Olympics, all 650-plus members of Team GB were given £25 worth of vouchers per month to spend in its stores, which in total amounted to £145k.

Aldi became the first official supermarket partner to Team GB in March last year, and this July, the discounter pledged to sponsor the team until the 2020 games in Tokyo.
