Department of Coffee & Social Affairs secures 11th site

Department of Coffee & Social Affairs has let a 1,167 sq ft site from TOG (The Office Group), the British pioneer of flexible workspaces and co-working, in London's Whitechapel.

The unit at 133 Whitechapel High Street marks the coffee brand’s eleventh in the capital.

From mid-December, the new coffee shop will trade seven days a week due to the resurgence of the area.

As well as the coffee shop, there is also a variety of other spaces in the building for different working styles and activities, from study carriages and stand-up desks to the large roof terrace.

Department of Coffee and Social Affairs CEO, Ashley Lopez added, “This is another opening in an iconic location in Central London. Whitechapel is plentiful in its history and culture and with the influx of start up businesses and residential properties to the area, it is an ideal location for our new coffee shop.

'We know this is an area of London that is thriving and we are excited to have the opportunity to be a part of its future growth.”

Olly Olsen, Co-CEO of The Office Group, said, “We’re really excited that the Department of Coffee & Social is opening their eleventh shop at our building in Whitechapel, as it’s an ambitious and growing business that will complement the TOG community very well. For many, hard work and good coffee go hand in hand, so we wanted to combine the best of both at our new workspace in Whitechapel.”

Leading specialist UK leisure property agency, Shelley Sandzer acted on behalf of TOG in the deal. The news marks the latest in a line of London deals completed by Shelley Sandzer in 2016, with sites secured for Franco Manca, GBK and San Carlo, as well as a debut site in the capital for MOD Pizza.

Tony Levine at Shelley Sandzer commented, “Whitechapel is and emerging London location and very well placed for an exciting coffee shop occupier, with nearby transport hubs and large local office buildings driving footfall throughout the day.

'We were tasked to find a coffee operator with a strong coffee focus that would complement The Office Group brand and also a coffee operator that can coincide with reception of the building.

'We have delivered an exciting and enterprising tenant by drawing on our wide-ranging knowledge of operators in the market and we are confident they will perform well in this site.”
