After experimenting with ice-distillation, bar operator and brewer, BrewDog has launched Hop Shot.
Subjecting the beer to Antarctic conditions causes it to freeze. Removing the ice formed concentrates and intensifies what remains, until you have the perfect hop grenade.
Hop Shot offers a sweet toffee flavour from the malt, with grapefruit, sticky orange, sharp yuzu and resin. A blistering bitterness is the fall-out; compound layers of fruit and pine cloaked in a mouth-coating fullness. The overall effect is a warming hop hit – a thunderous assault to the senses.
In days gone by, the arms race that erupted within craft brewing was a quest to top the ABV charts. These days, however, the hop is king. Irrespective of the double-digits it pulls with it, the encapsulation of the centre of a brewers’ art is now where it’s at; Double IPA is the new session beer.
