Elior Group sets out to become sustainability frontrunner

Elior Group has announced a new corporate social responsibility strategy to help it become a leader in sustainability for the foodservice industry.

Thanks to its strong sustainability credentials, Elior Group has held UN Global Compact Advanced status since 2004 and the leading caterer has now set out its strategy to combat what it perceives to be the four most important global issues:

1. Rising global health problems
2. Environmental issues caused by agriculture
3. Increasing food waste
4. Unemployment and inequality

To tackle these, Elior Group has committed to provide even healthier choices, increase its use of sustainable ingredients, implement a circular waste model, and help local communities to thrive.

In a bold statement of intent to see these commitments realised, the strategy details four concrete goals – all of which Elior Group aims to achieve by 2025:

1. 100% of its guests to be able to choose healthy and delicious food
2. 10 of its major ingredients – including eggs, palm oil and fish – to meet its sustainable and local sourcing criteria
3. Zero food waste to landfill
4. 70% of its managers to come from internal promotions, contributing to personal advancement and diversity

Catherine Roe, chief executive of Elior UK; Elior Group’s UK division, said, “We want to be a shining light in our industry and set the bar higher in terms of sustainability. By working with our suppliers, clients, guests and our own people – we believe we can generate a positive ‘foodprint’ which works for the benefit of all.”
