Compass Group Ireland chefs celebrate culinary success

Compass Group Ireland is celebrating after its talented chefs dazzled with a number of award wins at Ireland’s largest hospitality event, the Catex Exhibition 2017.

Seven chefs from across the business showcased their skills at the Chef Ireland 2017 Culinary Competition, held at the Catex Exhibition, winning five awards across various categories including one certificate of merit and four bronze medals.

The event, held at RDS Dublin, between February 21 and 23, comprised of a number of competitions across various categories including Hot Kitchen and Cold Display to demonstrate the outstanding talent within the industry.

These award wins follows on from a year of culinary success for Compass chefs in Ireland. In October, David Mahoney, sous chef at Compass Group Ireland, won the Senior Chef of the Year title at Compass Group UK & Ireland’s annual Chef of the Year competition held at The Restaurant Show in London. The competition offers chefs across the business an opportunity to demonstrate their culinary skills and passion.

In addition to this, seven Compass Ireland chefs were also successful in the Salon Culinaire competition at The Great Hospitality Show after winning five awards across five categories including two silver and three bronze medals.

Ryan Holmes, Culinary Director for Compass Group Ireland, said, “I am extremely proud of all of our chefs that have taken part in these competitions.

'Many of our entries in the Chef Ireland 2017 Culinary Competition were junior chefs so it was great that they had the opportunity to showcase their skills and dedication which they put into their work on a day-to-day basis.

'The competitions provide us with opportunities to demonstrate the talent we have developed within the Irish business and it is great that our chefs have experienced excellent culinary success in the past year.”

Bernard Treacy, from Compass Group Ireland, won a bronze medal at the event, added, “I am pleased to have won an award at the Chef Ireland Culinary Competition as it gave me an opportunity to share my passion for the food I create. It was great to see so many chefs come together to showcase their talents.”
