Lidl creates 500 jobs for planned Exeter distribution centre

Lidl is looking to recruit up to 500 staff for a new 50,000 sq m supermarket distribution centre due to open near Exeter later this year.

The retailer acquired the site at Clyst Honiton from Sainsbury's, who originally planned to build a centre there before putting its plans on hold in 2013.

Situated in the site known as the Exeter Gateway, the distribution centre, will be larger than six football pitches when completed.

The budget supermarket group currently operates 10 stores within a 50-mile radius of Exeter.
