JD Wetherspoon to open 11,000 sq ft Ramsgate pub in August

JD Wetherspoon is creating 150 jobs at a new 11,000 sq ft pub due to open in Ramsgate's Royal Victoria Pavilion on 29 August.

Pub co-manager Chris Whitborn said, 'The pub will be one of the largest, if not the largest in the UK, with a customer area of almost 11,000 square foot, plus a ground floor and first floor terrace.'

The Royal Victoria Pavilion - housed in the former seafront casino and dance hall – was originally due to open on 18 July. However, the renovation of the Grade II-listed building was taking longer than first hoped.

The pavilion, in Harbour Parade, was designed by architect Stanley Davenport Adshead and completed in 1903. It had stood derelict since 2008 after Rank Leisure casino moved.

Planning permission for a Wetherspoon at the site was granted last April and a lease deal with Thanet council followed shortly afterwards. The pub giant started development work last autumn.
