Sodexo suppliers showcase produce at The Open

Sodexo Sports & Leisure selected a variety of independent local suppliers to showcase their produce at the hospitality and dining suites during The Open at Royal Birkdale, which took place between the 16 – 23 July.

Birtwistles, Neve Fleetwood, Fiddlers Lancashire Crisps and The Bury Black Pudding, all from across the North West of England, supplied their high quality produce to visitors who were dining in the many hospitality suites, watching the greatest golfers and rising stars compete at the 146th Open.

Sodexo Sports & Leisure ran the hospitality spaces which included various separate venues this year such as, The Champions Club, 1860 Club, The Hillside Club, The Claret Jug Pavilion, The Claret Jug Suites and The Birkdale Suites.

Birtwistles, who were one of the independent suppliers to Sodexo, is a specialist Catering Butchers based in Irlam, Greater Manchester. Their experienced team designed a specific burger for the championship, a traditional beef burger. The burger which had been produced using a bespoke recipe, included finest British beef chuck from UK Farm Assured cattle, blended with a classic bespoke seasoning.

Similarly, Neve Fleetwood’s experienced team created a unique dish for the tournament this year, The Open Fish and Chips. The succulent fish, which utilised one of the UK’s most popular fish choices, haddock, was responsibly sourced and ensured that The Open guests enjoyed the best quality, fresh fish available.

Chris Scott, Sodexo Account Manager at Neve Fleetwood, said, “The Open proved a very busy but enjoyable time for us and it was a pleasure to supply such a prestigious event.”

Linzi Frost, Sodexo Sports & Leisure Account Manager for The Open Championship, said, “We were delighted to work with such a wide array of independent suppliers at this year’s championship. It’s extremely important to use only the best quality, fresh ingredients to make sure this year’s visitors had the best dining experience possible.”
