Aquavit London achieves first Michelin star

Less than a year after opening, Aquavit London has achieved its first Michelin star in the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2018.

Located in the redevelopment of St James’s Market, Aquavit London is a homage to Nordic design and cuisine, with dishes that honour fresh, seasonal ingredients to deliver a contemporary take on authentic Nordic cuisine, developed by Executive Chef Henrik Ritzén.

The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere and welcomes guests right through from breakfast and mid-morning fika, to lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner, while the stunning bar provides the perfect spot to sip delicious aquavit cocktails late into the evening.

The menu features a traditional smörgåsbord of small sharing plates that celebrate the Nordic region’s seafood dishes, including Shrimp Skagen; Herrings; and Gravadlax all served alongside a selection of freshly baked breads.

Starters also include Venison tartare with blueberries, lingonberries and juniper, while main courses include Swedish meatballs with lingonberries and pickled cucumber and Monkfish with Sandefjord sauce, trout roe, and fennel.

Overseen by the design studio of Swedish-born Martin Brudnizki, Aquavit London showcases celebrated Nordic designers in a laid-back yet sophisticated environment. The expansive dining space is flooded with natural light from the building’s glass façade, and the restaurant also encompasses two generous private dining rooms, and a handsome marble bar serving an extensive list of aquavits and Nordic-inspired cocktails.
