New Nisa store in Luton wins customers with broad food range for diverse population

A Nisa Local store in Luton is winning new customers thanks to the introduction of a broad new range of products aimed at the diverse population living locally.

The recently opened Marsh Farm store received a huge redevelopment that saw the original shop demolished as part of improvement works by the local council.

The brand new 4,000 sq ft store was then developed using the latest Store of the Future Evolution design to create a modern and bright shop.

Nisa retailer Barry Patel, a member for 20 years, said he has received positive feedback from all his customers since the move. He said, “I’m really pleased with it. We have been open for five weeks now and we are seeing more and more customers coming through the doors.”

Patel said the store, which is located within a bustling council housing estate, serves a varied population and he has tried to meet the growing needs of his customer base with the introduction of several new lines and services.

An in-store butchery counter selling Halal meat, an ethnic food core range which incorporates traditional Asian as well as Polish foodstuffs and a fresh produce counter are all now features of the store alongside the Post Office counter, the Lottery and Paypoint.

Patel said, “We have given ourselves a lift and are now doing something a bit different. It was about finding a niche in the market locally. The butchery, ethnic, Polish and Nisa ranges all complement one another and are a real draw to our customers.

“We are catering for a very diverse population and are seeing additional footfall. The new ethnic core range alone has increased in sales by 200 per cent since our move and the butchery counter, which is sub-let to a local butcher is taking £4,000 a week.”

Patel said Nisa’s Store Development Team provided “unbeatable expert advice” and along with support from his retail development manager, he has created an impressive new store which meets the needs of a wide range of clientele.

He concluded, “By doing something a little bit different to what some of our competitors are doing has really helped us and it seems to be just what our customers are looking for.”
