Jurys Inn finds 50% of Brits would rather spend Xmas in hotels than stay with family

Jurys Inn has today revealed that half of us would rather stay in a hotel than at our relatives’ homes, despite nearly 60% of Brits stating that spending time with family is what they are most excited about this Christmas.

However, only 8% of hosts would ever ask their guests to check in to a hotel even though they are most likely hosting begrudgingly in the first place – with 56% of people stating they would rather be hosted than play host!

This year the average British Christmas will see five people seated around the dining table, although 1 in 10 of us will be spending the day with 10 or more guests. On the flip side, 1 in 5 Brits will be spending Christmas alone or with just one other, and of those spending Christmas alone 72% of people don’t plan on leaving the house all day.

And with putting on weight this Christmas being the thing Brits are most dreading this Christmas (23%) not having leftovers at home can only be a good thing.

The key stats:
• 50% of Brits would rather spend Christmas in a hotel than stay at a relatives’ house
• Nearly 20% of Brits will be spending Christmas alone or with just one other
• 72% of people spending Christmas alone don’t plan to leave the house
• 56% of Brits would rather be hosted than host
• Brits are most looking forward to spending time with family (58%) and enjoying festive foods (46%)
• Brits are most dreading putting on weight (23%), rubbish TV (21%) and messing up the meal (13%)

Head of Marketing, Suzanne Cannon said, “Christmas is a special time to have family and friends around to celebrate, but the truth is, we can’t accommodate everyone. Jurys Inn are here to help every member of the family enjoy the festive break in comfort.”

She added, “If you are alone this year, we have group tables in our restaurants so you don’t have to sit or dine by yourself – beats being holed up at home all day.”
