Travelodge has opened its third hotel in Bath and becomes the city’s largest hotel chain. Bath City Centre (Bath Spa) Travelodge, a 56-room hotel represents an investment of £12m for the landlord and has created 20 new jobs. It is situated in the historic Westgate building in the heart of the city centre.
Travelodge launched its SuperRoom concept earlier this year - bringing the ‘premium economy’ concept familiar to airline users to the UK budget hotel market. Bath Waterside Travelodge is the first hotel outside of London to feature SuperRooms.
The new hotel features the company’s new ‘Travelodgical’ contemporary room which has been designed by business and leisure customers. The upgraded room features the bespoke luxurious king size Travelodge Dreamer bed with ambient lighting surround and USB charging points.
The new Bath City Centre hotel is being managed by John O’ Brien who joined Travelodge a year ago as the Assistant Hotel Manager at Bath Waterside Travelodge. John’s team of 20 staff members have all been recruited locally.
Huw Huckridge, Travelodge District Manager for Wiltshire said, “This year we are celebrating 18 years of trading in Bath and we are thrilled to celebrate this milestone with a hat trick of firsts.
“As we look to the future, Somerset is a key growth area for Travelodge. The local economy is growing at pace and with increasing visitor numbers to the area there is a big shortage of good quality and great value accommodation to meet customer demand. Therefore Travelodge is looking to expand its portfolio with a further four hotels across the county.
'This investment will create approximately 100 jobs and represent an investment of £32 million for third party investors. The four locations include: Minehead, Taunton Centre, Yeovil and Weston-Super-Mare (seafront).

Travelodge has future growth plans in Somerset and is looking for hotel sites in Minehead, Taunton Centre, Yeovil and Weston-Super-Mare (seafront). This investment will create approximately 100 jobs and represents an investment of £32m for third party investors.
The hotel chain has also announced that it has completed a £2m modernisation make-over at its 125-room, Bath Waterside Travelodge hotel. The new look upgraded hotel now features 30 SuperRooms, the company’s new premium economy room offering, 95 enhanced Travelodgical rooms and a new look Bar Café.
