Over 600 KFC sites remain closed due to delivery crisis

After the news yesterday that KFC had to temporarily close over 550 of the chain's 900-strong estate, due to the new delivery partner's issues, only 300 remain open today.

Interestingly, on the brand's customer website, where a special link has been set up for people to check which sites are open, it shows just three currently open outlets in Luton, Hereford and Glasgow.

Some of the outlets that remain open have been forced to offer a limited menu and cut their opening hours as a result of the logistical issues.

The firm has yet to say when the 600-plus sites will reopen. A spokesperson said, 'Our teams are working flat out all hours to get the rest back up and running as soon as possible – but it’s too early to say how long it will take to clear the backlog.”

KFC announced last November that it was going to change its chicken delivery firm from Bidvest to DHL. The new deal has seen DHL partnering with specialist foodservice logistics provider, QSL, for the first time.

DHL has blamed “operational issues” for a number of deliveries in recent days being “incomplete or delayed”. The firm added, “We are working with KFC and our partners to rectify the situation as a priority and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
