Bun House owners to open second Chinese crepe pitstop

Soho's Bun House & Tea Room owners are set to launch a second Pleasant Lady Jian Bing Trading Stall, the street-side hatch serving traditional Chinese-style crepes, at Old Spitalfields Market on 11 June.

To celebrate its arrival, Pleasant Lady will be selling its signature jian bing for just £1, all day, from Monday 11 to Wednesday 13 June.

Since opening in April, the hatch at the Bun House & Tea Room site has quickly become the go-to snack pitstop in Soho, with eager fans of the traditional street food queuing for their fix.

Following the success of the Greek Street opening, Pleasant Lady Trading Stall will be bringing China’s most-loved street food to east London, setting up shop in The Kitchens at the newly redesigned Old Spitalfields Market.

Jian bing, a thin crispy pancake that is folded up and eaten piping hot in the street, is made fresh to order, with guests at Old Spitalfields Market taking their pick from savoury fillings: aromatic Iberico Char Siu Pork, earthy Cumin Spiced Lamb or Grilled Miso Chicken.

Co-founder Z He, who also launched Bun House and Tea Room with husband Alex Peffly, said, “Old Spitalfields Market is the perfect east London home for Pleasant Lady Trading Stall. The spirit of the market is a great match for our jian bing, which is designed to be eaten on the go – the best way to browse the market stalls will be to grab a jian bing and go for a wander.

'It will be exciting to bring a much-loved taste of my childhood in Canton to the hustle and bustle of East London.”
