CAMRA welcomes Adjudicator recognition of Pubs Code flaws

Following today's Select Committee hearing on the Pubs Code, CAMRA's National Chairman has made a statement.

Jackie Parker (pictured) said, 'CAMRA welcomes the Pubs Code Adjudicator's recognition of the fundamental flaws in the Pubs Code preventing tied pub tenants from securing the Market Rent Only (MRO) option. It is clear the Code needs strengthening so that the MRO option becomes a genuine choice for pub tenants.

'However, these changes cannot wait until the statutory review period next year. We are very concerned about the shockingly low MRO conversion rates that were reported to the Select Committee today, and it is clear the current process is not achieving the fairness to tenants intended when it was first introduced.

'CAMRA is calling for an urgent public review of the Code to identify these and other vital changes that are necessary to secure the future of Britain's pubs.'
