£10m hotel & food superstore complex planned for Londonderry

Derry City Council is to consider plans from Caw Properties, owned by the McGinnis Group, for a £10m hotel and food superstore development in Londonderry, with the creation of 300 jobs.

SDLP councillor Thomas Conway said Derry City Council's planning committee welcomed the proposal and was 'impressed' by the committment to the local economy. 'I see no reason why a decision cannot be reached on this project within the next few months,' he said.

Londonderry was awarded the UK’s first City of Culture for 2013. Inspired by Liverpool’s huge success as European Capital of Culture in 2008, the Government launched the UK City of Culture competition which allows the host city to devise a programme of events and projects which reflects its identity, showcases its culture and raises its profile, opening the doors to increased private investment and regeneration.
