£5m Travelodge opens in Chippenham

Travelodge, Wiltshire’s first branded budget hotel chain, has opened its third hotel in Chippenham, becoming the town’s largest hotel brand.

This is the company’s second hotel opening in Wiltshire this year. In June, the company opened its second hotel in Swindon by the designer shopping outlet. Collectively these two hotels represent an investment of £11m and have created 40 new jobs.

Chippenham Travelodge is the company’s 585th hotel and represents an investment of £5m for the landlord and has created 20 new jobs within the community. The hotel was officially opened today by Mayor of Chippenham, Councillor Desna Allen and Nigel MacKenzie, Travelodge UK Operations Director.

At the opening ceremony, Travelodge announced that it wants to expand further in Wiltshire and is looking to open its first hotels in: Malmesbury and Marlborough. This expansion would collectively represent an investment of £14m for third party investors and create 50 new jobs. These two additions would also boost Travelodge’s portfolio in Wiltshire to 10 hotels.

The Chippenham Travelodge on Foundry Lane is a 69-room hotel with an on-site restaurant named the Bar Café and free car-parking.

All rooms feature the bespoke luxurious king-size Travelodge Dreamer bed, which sits within a mood lighting surround and has spacious bedside shelves featuring charging ports. In addition all family rooms include two individual beds for children.

The rooms also feature an en-suite bathroom, power shower, comfort cooling, to enable you to regulate the temperature of your room, a 32 inch Freeview TV, free in-room tea & coffee making facilities and access to Wifi.

Nigel MacKenzie, UK Operations Director, said, “We are delighted to become Chippenham’s biggest hotel brand by opening our third hotel in Langley Park. This is our second hotel opening in Wiltshire during the last four months.

' In June, this year, we opened our second hotel in Swindon close to the designer outlet. Collectively these two hotels represent an investment of £11 million for third party investors and have created 40 new jobs.

“These two hotel openings are also great news for their local economy as our research shows that customers will spend double their room rate with local businesses during their stay. This equates to an annual spend of nearly £2 million in Chippenham and Swindon.”

MacKenzie continued, ‘‘As we look forward, Wiltshire is growing at pace and attracting record visitor numbers, however there remains a shortage of good quality and great value accommodation in the country. Therefore to fill this gap we are looking for hotel sites in Malmesbury and Marlborough, to open our first Travelodge hotels.

'Collectively this expansion would represent an investment of £14 million for third party investors, create 50 new jobs and boost Travelodge’s portfolio to ten hotels in Wiltshire.

Mayor of Chippenham, Councillor Desna Allen said, ‘‘I have been aware for some time that the town’s hotels have not been able to meet the demand for overnight accommodation. It is with particular pleasure that I welcome this addition to the provision for our increasing number of visitors, having stayed at many Travelodge hotels over the years.’’

Chippenham Travelodge is being managed by Fiona Gay who joined the company four years ago. Fiona gained extensive experience in managing Travelodge hotels across the counties of Somerset and Wiltshire, before getting the keys to a brand new hotel.

Gay said, “I am very proud to have built a fantastic team who are as passionate as me about delivering great customer service and going the extra mile for our customers. Our new hotel has got off to a flying start, with room rates from £29, we are gearing up for a very busy October half term and festive season.

'Many local residents are booking rooms early for the Christmas period for their visiting family and friends, so it looks like we will be the town’s spare room provider this festive season.”
