CDG named one of top 100 catering equipment industry greats

Phil Howard, founder and managing director of Daventry-based commercial kitchen and restaurant design company, Catering Design Group (CDG), has been named one of the top 100 catering equipment industry greats by Catering Insight magazine.

Phil has spent a lifetime in the foodservice, catering and hospitality sector, is a highly respected and well-liked industry player. Throughout his career to date, he has supported the industry and the individuals working in it, from forging strong and lasting relationships with suppliers and clients to developing young talent and creating opportunities for people to shine.

The listing was compiled to mark the 100th issue of Catering Insight. Clare Nicholls, editor of Catering Insight, said: “The people category of our ‘100 Greats’ celebration lauds the undisputed legends of the catering equipment and supply chain. Our final choices represent the most significant characters, past and present, who have had a major influence on the trade.”

One of CDG’s design projects was also honoured in another listing by Catering Insight magazine of the UK’s top 100 commercial kitchen design and fitout projects for its work at the University of Sunderland.

This ambitious project involved CDG transforming five individual spaces over two campuses three miles apart at the University of Sunderland. CDG drew on years of experience within the commercial restaurant and kitchen business to make each space work in its own right, while reflecting the University’s ethos and styling. It involved 2,240 man-hours, 350 square metres of flooring, 100 square metres of wall and floor tiling – plus endless ingenuity and attention to detail.

Phil Howard said: “I am honoured and delighted to have been recognised by Catering Insight. To see our work at the University of Sunderland project in the listing is also a great win for the entire CDG team who rose to this significant design and build challenge with enthusiasm, creativity and professionalism.

“This is a great boost for the team at this extraordinary time.”
