M&S reopens 49 cafes for takeaway hot beverages

Marks & Spencer is reopening 49 of its cafes across the country today for takeaway hot drinks only.

All the cafes that have been selected are located next to M&S Foodhall stores, which have remained open through the lockdown.

The reopening plan follows a trial at five locations including its High Street Kensington in London and Canterbury sites.

The company has prepared rigorous guidance for colleagues and has added extensive signage for customers so they can pick up their coffee safely.

Plastic screens have been installed at each cafe till, and employees are to wash their hands every 30 minutes as a minimum, with surfaces sanitised regularly.

Only one staff member will work behind a counter at a time to ensure social distancing, and customers are encouraged to use contactless payment.
