Pret to close 30 sites with 3,000 jobs lost

Sandwich chain, Pret A Manger is set to close 30 stores with up to 3,000 job losses.

The company has experienced a major fall in sales due to the lockdown closures and even after reopening its 367 UK sites, it has suffered a drop in demand from commuters and office workers.

The stores are also open for significantly fewer hours than they were before the pandemic, and the firm has asked staff to reduce their hours.

CEO Pano Christou (pictured) said, 'Although we're now starting to see a steady but slow recovery, the pandemic has taken away almost a decade of growth at Pret.

'We've managed to protect many jobs by making changes to the way we run our shops and the hours we ask team members to work.

'I'm hopeful we'll be able to review all these changes now that trade is improving again.'

Founded in 1983, Pret currently has over 450 shops in nine countries.
