Food manufacturer Samworth Brothers is to open a new factory to the north east of Leicester. The firm, which employs 5,500 people at its eight plants in Leicestershire, has agreed a deal to buy a 12.3-acre area of land at Ashton Green, Beaumont Leys, from Leicester City Council.
The city council said the complex will create new jobs but neither it, nor the company, has said how many. Should all go according to plan, Samworth Brothers hopes to move into a new complex in early 2013.
The group is a key manufacturer of chilled foods and produce pork pies, pasties, sandwiches, savouries, salads, ready meals, cooked meats, sausages, and desserts. The firm's brands include: Dickinson & Morris, Ginsters, Walker & Son, and Cornwall’s Pride.
