Samworth Brothers to create 700 jobs with new site

As Caterlyst reported in November, food manufacturers, Samworth Brothers intends to build a plant on a 12.3-acre site at Ashton Green, Leicester, as part of an expansion of the business. The firm has just revealed that the site could create up to 700 jobs.

Samworth Brothers' new chief executive, Lindsey Pownall, has said the factory was likely to open in 2014, creating 200 jobs in the first instance, with potentially 500 more to follow.

She said the site would produce chilled food to supplement the range of snacks, ready meals, cakes and desserts in its existing eight factories around the county.

This family company has 13 businesses producing high quality chilled foods for the British market, employing over 8,000 people in well-invested, modern sites in Leicestershire and Cornwall.
