Chartwells celebrates winning two new catering contracts

Chartwells Independent, part of the education catering arm of Compass UK & Ireland, has been awarded two new contracts to operate the catering at Hunter Hall, Cumbria, and Abbey Gate College, just outside Chester.

The move, which saw Chartwells Independent commence their new partnerships in January and April respectively, clearly demonstrates the appetite of the company to continue growing its presence in the market, driven by an unrelenting focus on food quality, consistency, and sustainability.

The separate contracts both commended Chartwells Independent for the quality of its food offer, driven by its Executive Chef Rob Kennedy and centred around the principles of quality, simple and delicious food.

Sustainability, and engaging educational sessions, were also pivotal parts of both proposals, with the business focuses on regional suppliers and the delivery of its award-winning Beyond The Chartwells Kitchen programme.

Furthermore, Chartwells Independent will also introduce a new kitchen garden at Abbey Gate College, in a move that will ensure pupils understand the seed to plate journey.

The Bursar at Abbey Gate College said, “We were aware of Chartwells Independent’s reputation for delivering high quality food, which was part of the reason we initially approached the business.

'Upon learning about their drive for engaging and educating pupils about the food system, as well as championing a sustainable agenda, and supporting local suppliers, we knew we’d found a partner that shared our values. We can’t wait to get the kitchen garden up and running and see pupils with happy faces and empty plates.”

Noelle Jones, Managing Director, Chartwells Independent, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with these quality schools who share our core values. Since emerging from the pandemic, we have focused internally on driving the food quality across our business and creating a culture of excellence.

'This focus has driven standards and we’re now poised for growth as we look to bring nutritious and delicious food to more pupils across the UK.”

Donna Vinsome, Headteacher, Hunter Hall, added, “Since moving to Chartwells in January we have been very impressed with their professionalism and level of support and commitment to offering healthier choices.

'The children are excited about what is on offer each day and the way the food is presented to them makes it tempting for them to try something they may otherwise not have eaten in the past.”
