New 340-bedroom hotel planned for derelict Manchester site

Property developer Dominvs Living, has acquired the landmark site of the derelict Employment Exchange building in Ayyoun Street, Manchester, where they will now develop a four-star, 340-bedroom hotel.

Located adjacent to Manchester’s Piccadilly station, the new hotel will form part of the mixed use Piccadilly Regeneration Project which Dominvs Living believes will benefit from its location next to the station, which is planned to become the north west terminal of the new H52 high speed train to London, Birmingham and Leeds.

Dominvs is hoping to open the hotel in 2015, subject to planning permission. It will be the company’s first property development.

The site which Dominvs has acquires, previously belonged to Liverpool-based property development firm Albany Crown, which had planned to build an £80m, 44-storey tower designed by Manchester-based architect Ian Simpson. Plans included a hotel and a suite of offices. However, Albany Crown was placed into administration with Deloitte in May 2010.

Dylan Burke, head of sales and marketing at Dominvs Living, said that the intention will be to eventually appoint a hotel operator which will best fit the location and style of the property.

Primarily known as a developer of residential properties, Dominvs – meaning “superior” in Latin – entered the hotel market earlier this year with the acquisition of Aston Hotels, a group of three hotels in Sheffield, Darlington and Dumfries.
