Warburtons given green light for new £20m Burnley facility

Food manufacturer Warburtons has been given permission to go ahead with a new £20m facility in Burnley, expecting to lead to 60 new jobs.

The new bakery will produce Warburtons’ range of Sandwich Alternatives, including its wraps and sandwich thins products. Work is expected to begin this week leading up to a January 2015 completion date.

Neil Campbell, managing director at Warburtons, said, “This is an exciting time for the business and underlines our continued commitment to future growth. We recognise that consumer needs and tastes are changing and we must ensure we are fit to meet their needs, now and into the future.

“As a family business, we are able to take decision for the long term and we’re looking forward to expanding our presence in Burnley – a town which we have been a part of for over 30 years.”

Warburtons has had a presence in Burnley for over 30 years and employs 250 people. The firm has existing wraps and sandwich thins plants in Bristol and Bolton and produces over £1million of these products each week.

Over the past decade, Warbutons has invested more than £400 million in its infrastructure to ensure it can make the best quality products. The group has 26 sites across the UK.
