McColl’s set to increase convenience stores to 1,000 by 2016

Convenience store group, McColl's has announced its plans to expand its chain of 725 convenience stores to 800 by the end of the year and 1,000 by 2016. This will include the conversion of 191 local post offices in 2014 within the UK.

Chairman and Chief Executive, James Lancaster, said the growth comes as a result of increased sales from a wider range of groceries and converting more of their newsagents to food and wine stores, with total sales up 3%.

Lancaster said, “Our recent float has put us in a position to make acquisitions of independent convenience stores and grow further.”

McColl's currently has 1,279 stores including its newspaper shops.
