New £3m ice rink for Bristol planned

Bristol City Council is in discussions with RTC Leisure about plans to develop a new £3m ice rink at Hengrove Park almost two years after the last one was closed and demolished.

Ice hockey player Rob Cook has set up a limited company called RTC Leisure Ltd with the aim of building a new ice rink for the city. He said: 'We are committed to constructing a new facility in Bristol, and aim to do so as swiftly as possible for the benefit of the many teams and skaters in the city.

'I'm sure that a rink would draw thousands of people from all over the region to Bristol and help the local economy.'

The planned Olympic-sized (30m by 60m) ice pad would also use less energy than traditional rinks, with waste heat from the chillers captured to meet some of the arena's energy needs.
